@nevadannews A new senior housing community is expected to open this fall with 171 units to help address southern Nevada’s affordable housing crisis. But with more than 700 applicants on the waitlist, the project can only go so far. To address the lack of affordable housing in southern Nevada, the federal, state, and local governments are investing and awarding hundreds of millions of dollars, but the state still has a shortage of about 78,000 affordable homes. Just this week, the Clark County Commissioners approved nearly $66.3 million in funding for housing projects. The funding will go to nine applicants for the construction or rehabilitation of more than 1,200 units for certain low-income families and seniors over the next couple of years.
