Tuesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day.
The date marks the end of World War I, when fighting ceased between the Allied nations and Germany on Nov. 11, 1918, following the signing of the armistice in Compiègne, France, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Treaty of Versailles was signed seven months later at the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France.
The holiday was known as Armistice Day until 1954 when it was renamed Veterans Day.
To honor the holiday, multiple restaurants around Reno are offering discounts and freebies to veterans and active-duty military personnel. Here are a few:
What is the Tuesday special at Grimaldi’s?
Active military service members and veterans can enjoy 15% off meals every day at Grimaldi’s, but next Monday, Nov. 10, and Tuesday, Nov. 11, the Italian restaurant chain is offering an increased discount for all active, retired and off-duty military.
When veterans and military personnel provide Grimaldi’s staff with a military ID they can enjoy a 25% discount on their meal.
The Grimaldi’s in the Reno area is located at 1180 Scheels Drive in Sparks.
Do veterans eat free at Applebee’s on Veterans Day?
Applebee’s is offering veterans and active-duty military personnel a free meal from a select menu on Nov. 11.
The Applebee’s in Reno is located at 4805 Kietzke Lane.
Does Chili’s have a free meal for Veterans Day?
Chili’s is offering free select items for veterans and active-duty military members on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
There are two Chili’s locations in the Reno area at 10340 N. McCarran Blvd. and 5090 Smithridge Drive.
Does BJ’s Brewhouse have a veteran discount?
According to Military.com, active-duty and retired military dining in at BJ’s can receive a free chocolate chunk Pizookie when they present staff with a valid military ID. From Nov. 12 through the end of the year, guests with a valid military ID who dine in can also receive a free Appetizer Bounce Back to enjoy on a future visit with the purchase of an entree.
There are two BJ’s Brewhouse locations in the Reno area: one at 13999 S. Virginia St. and one at 425 Sparks Blvd.
Is Cracker Barrel doing anything special for Veterans Day?
Cracker Barrel is offering a free Sunrise Pancake Breakfast on Nov. 11 to all active military personnel and retired veterans. The breakfast includes two buttermilk pancakes and a choice of either two eggs or a breakfast meat on the side.

Does Dave & Buster’s offer a veteran discount?
Dave & Buster’s is offering a free entree for veterans and active military personnel as well as a $10 Power Card for games when they present a military ID. The offer is only valid on Nov. 11.

Is Denny’s offering Veterans Day deals?
Veterans and active-duty military personnel receive a free Original Grand Slam on Nov. 11 from 5 a.m. to noon.
