First Friday Las Vegas — Along with the local businesses, artists, and food trucks, this week’s First Friday will feature a community maker space where attendees can help create 10,000 handmade ornaments for the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Smokey the Bear and forest rangers will be on-site. The event on Aug. 1 runs 5-11 p.m. on Main Street (Charleston to Coolidge) with the Art Walk being on Boulder and 1st Street. Check out featured artist Tara Banfield and her vibrant oil portraits celebrating Black women.
Ride the Wave Back to School — Community pool party before the start of the school year on Aug. 2, 12-3 p.m. at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center and Pool (4025 Allen Lane) in North Las Vegas. Admission is free.
Early Bird Hike — Join a Bureau of Land Management ranger every Sunday in August, starting Aug. 3, on a guided 2.1-mile hike on the Moenkopi trail in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area from 7-8:30 a.m. Online signup is required to attend the Early Bird Hike. Attendees will receive further instructions via email.

Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival — The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor is headlined by productions of “Twelfth Night,” a romantic comedy, and Peter and the “Starcatcher,” the playful Peter Pan prequel. Shows run through Aug. 24, Tuesdays through Sundays at 7:30 p.m. Find tickets online.
